A tough new drink-driving law is partly responsible for a dip in financial growth in Scotland, an economist has said.

Scots have seriously toned down their alcohol intake after a law came into force in December reducing the legal drink-drive limit from 80mg to 50mg in every 100ml of blood.

Police warn the only way to know for sure whether you’re over the limit is to not drink at all.

Yesterday, just months after the law passed, the Bank of Scotland published a report in which it said the private sector suffered a poor month.

It comes as a survey of Scottish businesses reports bar sales have dropped by more than 50 per cent since the law was introduced.

Donald MacRae, the bank’s chief economist, said people had changed their drinking habits and that was partly responsible for the downturn.

He said: ‘Manufacturing exporters have been affected by the falling Euro, while services businesses in hospitality are seeing a changing pattern of spending resulting from the lowered alcohol limit while driving.’

hanno messo limiti bassissimi per la guida. L'ultima volta che siamo andati col Presidente ci hanno messo molto in guardia e, guardacaso, mentre io stavo schiscio il suddetto si sfondava.

Beh, 50 mg/100 ml sono 0.5 gr/L come da noi. Sicuramente non è un limite altissimo ma certo compatibile con un bicchiere di vino a cena e magari un dram dopo cena. Poi ci sono tante variabili (sesso, età, abitudine a bere, stomaco pieno/vuoto etc). Ma sicuramente chi dice che ha bevuto un bicchiere di vino solamente e gli hanno ritirato la patente mente sapendo di mentire...

Infatti, se non si esagera rimanendo nei 2/3cl a dram, teoricamente un paio sono fattibili per rimanere nel limite, ancora più se a stomaco pieno. Magari non due cask strenght ecco xD

Paradossalmente farsi una pinta di birra -così detta- doppio malto attorno ai 8-9° o più è peggio che non un paio di dram di whisky.. su mezzo litro di una 9° si beve molto più alcol.

A parte rari casi credo che lì in Scozia, così come in molti altri paesi del nord (tipo Finlandia e non solo quella..), lì ragionano che "bere" vuol dire più o meno sfondarsi tutta la sera di alcol, quando non possono piuttosto non bevono del tutto. Pensate che in Finlandia vanno nelle aziende a campione e spesso beccano lavoranti con tassi fuori ancora dalla sera prima e li sospendono per 6 mesi senza paga con possibilità di licenziamento per il datore di lavoro.. ma lì hanno giusto un problemino col bere
